Nassau/Suffolk Trail Ride Overnight

This Mini Adventure can start in Bethpage State Park, anywhere along the Farmingdale Bike path or right from Adventure Cycles & Sports. This Journey will have you off-road bike (mostly single track) 15-30 miles in Bethpage State Park, Trail View State Park & alongside the Nassau/Suffolk trail all the way up to Syosset, (you can also take a side trip here and try the infamous Stillwell loop, 6 miles of great stuff. Not easy.) After passing through Stillwell woods you will reach Stillwell Road. This is where then you will have to get off the bike and hike the remaining 2.5 miles to the trail end (Cold Spring Harbor State Park).  Not only is there no biking on this section of trail, you probably would not be able to bike it, due to the steep terrain of this very hilly area of Cold Spring Harbor. The reward of this adventure is at the end of the trail you can check-in at the B&B (The Swan view Inn) about 100 yards North of the trail end, where you can enjoy a great night in the Village of Cold Spring Harbor. Now after a Fun night, gear up and do it all over again back to your starting point. Total miles is 30 - 60 or more. Mileage will all depend on your starting point and amount of side trails you take. Have Fun.

Resources recommend for this trip:

  • Nassau/Suffolk trail map, L.I. Greenbelt Trail Conference

  • Stillwell Mtn. Bike Loop trail map, Concerned Long Island Mountain Bicyclists, (C.L.I.M.B.)

  • The book "Hiking L.I. ", By Lee McAllister, NY-NJ Trail Conference

  • Swan View Inn, Cold Spring Harbor, NY

  • L.I.R.R. Farmingdale Station

All trip ideas are only suggestions to get you thinking about how to utilize the many wonders here on LI.
